Let’s work together

Sport Psychology

Working directly with you to improve performance, overcome challenges, and develop wellbeing in and through sport.

Client-centred, flexible approach

I develop and deliver sport psychology support to my clients on the basis of their individual goals and specific needs. All of my consultancy starts with a briefing, where I can get to know you and begin to figure out the best ways to help support you.

Personal characteristics, coaching relationships, team culture and family contexts are all taken into account in my work. We are all rounded individuals with complex personal and social lives, which I pay close attention to as I get to know you.

This makes sure that the work we do together is effective in addressing the specific challenges facing you right now.

Research-informed practice

I hold a PhD in sport psychology, and am an academic as well as a practitioner. This means that I conduct my own sport psychology research, as well as teach this subject at university level.

My work is always informed by the latest research developments; I steer clear of fads and clichés, to make sure everything I do is supported by science. There is a lot of advice out there that claims to be ‘sport psychology’, but not all of it is scientifically valid!

This ensures that the work we do together is built on sound principles and a good evidence base; I won’t waste your time on things that aren’t going to help you.

Open to everyone

Sport psychology is not just for elite-level athletes. I work with all ability levels and age groups, across a variety of sports. I also offer support to athletes’ parents and other family members, emphasising not just performance but also personal growth and wellbeing.

For athletes in pairs or team sports, I encourage whole-group involvement in psychology support, where possible.  This makes sure that I can support all athletes within the contexts of their specific performance needs.

Lastly, I also offer psychology training and support to coaches and referees. Research shows that you are performers with your own unique set of needs, and can benefit from psychological skills training just as much as athletes do!

Educational Workshops

Psychological skills training

As well as my consultancy work I offer a range of bespoke training services for clients in sport, business, and beyond.  These are designed to help you understand psychology and its role in improving your performance, supporting your work, or contributing to your general wellbeing.

I deliver both online webinars and in-person workshops, tailored to the specific needs of clients. For example, these include coach education lectures, sports club training sessions, referees’ workshops, or business clients’ professional development seminars.

My academic qualifications, professional affiliation with the Higher Education Academy, and extensive experience as a lecturer make me a highly effective facilitator of such training sessions.

Research consultancy

I also offer research methods consultancy and training services to clients looking to develop their in-house research. I have extensive experience of teaching, supervising, carrying out and reviewing academic research, and can translate this knowledge into a variety of contexts.

Specifically, I have a strong background in qualitative methodologies and social psychological theory. I can help you realise the great potential these hold for improving your research activity and better understanding the cultural contexts of your own work.

I am passionate about research-informed practice, and eager to help support clients in developing these skills themselves.

Business Performance

Business and performance psychology

In recent years businesses have increasingly recognised the importance of psychology for improving their performance. Popular concepts such as mindfulness, wellbeing, and the growth mindset have become more and more common, but they are often discussed without much scientific credibility.

My work as a performance psychology consultant can help your employees to develop important skills in these areas. By using sound psychological practice, I can help your business work towards various goals, such as improving productivity, creativity, employee wellbeing, and so on.

Whether through one-to-one psychology coaching or whole-team training workshops, I can help you archive this by drawing on my insights into the high-pressure working environment that is professional sport.

My wider background

As well as being an academic and sport psychology practitioner, I have a background in management studies, which I also currently teach at university level. As such, I am well accustomed to drawing parallels between psychological principles and the practical demands of business.

Beyond this, I have also worked in various roles in the tourism and travel sector, and have worked as a freelance translator and interpreter at the highest levels of European football management, global entertainment awards ceremonies, and international political summits. I also have experience working in numerous countries across Europe, in each of the four languages I am fluent in (Czech, English, Russian and Ukrainian).

All of this makes me a well-rounded consultant with experience in working across sectors and cultural contexts, applying ideas and principles as needed to help my clients succeed.
